WIM's third annual event: Communicating moderation and responsibility
The wine sector confirms its commitment to globally promote moderate and responsible consumption.
On the occasion of its third year anniversary, Wine in Moderation – Art de Vivre (WIM) Aisbl organised its annual event in Brussels on 17 November 2014. The exclusive event that brought together senior representatives of authorities, trade associations, and companies was an excellent occasion to present WIM’s latest achievements, and to explore new possibilities to better communicate moderation and responsibility in order to tackle alcohol related harm.
Brussels, 20th November 2014 - This year’s event thus focused on exploring different approaches in the communication of moderation and responsibility, to contribute to the common objective of tackling harmful use of alcohol beverages, while sustaining the responsible development of the wine sector and preserving a culture and a heritage integral to the European & International patrimony.
In the framework of this event, the round table discussion “Communicating Moderation and Responsibility” highlighted relevant policy developments ahead for the wine sector, analysed different point of views on how to best communicate moderation and responsibility, acknowledged the valuable efforts done by the wine sectors through the WIM programme in this area so far, and explored challenges and opportunities offered by EU policies and tools - including the EU programmes supporting information campaigns focusing on moderation and responsibility in the consumption of wines.
To illustrate the potential offered by these information programmes, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) presented the implementation of the campaign “Quien Sabe Beber, Sabe Vivir” as a first and successful experience on raising awareness and knowledge on moderate consumption patterns, building on values and social norms that are inherent to the wine culture.
The effective implementation of our WIM commitment is a strategic priority to ensure the sustainable development of the EU wine chain, fully compatible with a healthier Europe”. - declared George Sandeman, president of WIM – “Wine in Moderation-Art de Vivre (WIM) Aisbl and its members are committed to enhance responsibility and moderation in the wine consumption as a social and cultural norm. We will continue our ever growing efforts, by seizing all available opportunities and optimizing tools and approaches to continue spreading the WIM message and contributing to tackle harmful use of alcohol”.
